Using Leech FTP

Getting Started | Connect to the Server | Changing Views
Changing Directories and Drives | Transferring Files | Disconnecting from the Server

Printable Version (Without Graphics)

Getting Started

  1. Find and double-click the following icon on the desktop:

  2. The program looks like this when it has been opened:

Connect to the Server

  1. Either select "File --> Connect..." from the menu bar, or click the "Normal Connect" icon from the Tool bar:

  2. Enter the server address in the "Host or URL:" box. Enter your username and password into the appropriate boxes. Change the Port number if applicable. The default is 21. Then press the OK button to establish your connection. Note: If you are unable to FTP to a server using only the server name, insert "ftp." in front of the host name as in the following screen capture. This is required for some Rutgers University servers (rci, and eden to name a few).

Switching Between Local View and Remote View

  1. To alternate views, use the mouse to click in either of the windows. This will allow navigation of that particular window. Essentially, the left window represents the local view (Workstation), while the right represents the remote view (Server).

  2. The window that has the blue bar above represents the machine on which you may search for files to be uploaded/downloaded. To change from the Workstation to the Server, click anywhere in the server window (right window). You will see that the right window now has the blue bar above it.

Changing Local Directories and Drives

  1. To change between local drives, select "Local --> Change Directory" from the menu bar.

  2. The browser will allow navigation between directories and drives present on the local computer. From this window, select the desired drive or directory that contains the files for upload or download
Follow the same procedures substituting "Remote" for"Local" in order to navigate on the server.

Downloading and Uploading Files

  1. To download and upload files you will use two buttons that are located on the toolbar (highlighted).

  2. To download files from the server to the workstation, use the button on the left (with the red downward pointing arrow). To upload files from your workstation to the server, use the button with the blue/green upward pointing arrow.

NOTE: When using the workstations in the IHLs or the datacenter, we recommend saving your work to X:TEMP (Visitors on 'Scc01' (X:)\TEMP). This will allow you to access your files from any other workstation in the SCC.

Disconnecting from the Remote Server

  1. When all of your file transfers are completed you should disconnect from the server.

  2. Click the Disconnect Button found in the toolbar to detach from the remote server.

  3. Close the program after disconnecting from the server.
